Loma Linda, CA
The city of Loma Linda, located in southwestern San Bernardino County, is part of the Inland Empire east of Los Angeles. Loma Linda is home to an estimated population of 24,000 people, covering a land area of just 7.5 square miles.
In the late 1890s, a group of businessmen and physicians opened a convalescent home and health resort, calling it “Loma Linda,” Spanish for “pretty hill.” The city was incorporated many decades later in 1970. Loma Linda today is home to Loma Linda University, which includes one of the largest concentrations of Seventh-day Adventists in the world. This group happens to hold one of the country’s highest rates of longevity. Since vegetarianism is a popular practice of Seventh-day Adventists, many restaurants in Loma Linda feature a vegetarian menu in addition to regular menu items.
